What is Bikram Yoga?

Bikram Yoga is the most powerful, demanding yet beautiful type of Hatha & Raja Yoga in the world. Bikram’s Yoga helps with stress, insomnia, obesity, weight control, arthritis, diabetes, and more.  It is scientifically and systematically designed  to warm and stretch every muscle, joint, tendon, ligament, organ and vertebrae. By moving fresh blood and oxygen to all areas of the body, every system of the body is restored. Every cell in the body is reactivated, reorganized, revitalized and re-energized! The result is a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Bikram Yoga is a challenging 90 minute series of 26 postures (asanas) and 2 breathing exercises in a heated climate that provides the body with a complete system of wellness, restoration and rejuvenation.  What makes the Bikram yoga system unique is the sequence in which the poses are done.  Each posture forms the perfect basis for the next, warming and stretching the appropriate muscles, ligaments, and tendons.  Bikram's Beginning Yoga class systematically moves fresh, oxygenated blood to 100 percent of each practitioners body, to each organ and fiber, restoring all systems to their most vital capacity.  Our Express and Silent classes focus on breath as do the 90 minute classes.  You will love the combination of classes available to you.

Our Inferno Hot Pilates (IHP) class combines Pilates principles with high intensity interval training (HIIT) and is designed to increase flexibility, burn fat, strengthen muscles and improve overall health.  If you are looking to tone and lose weight, this class is for you!  This class compliments our regular Bikram class and you will notice your balance and flexibility greatly improve.

Our Happy Hour class is our Bikram Yoga class in one hour.  It is a tremendous workout and promotes stamina and focus all at the same time.

Our Vinyasa class is a series of poses that focuses on the flow between movements.  In Vinyasa Yoga, you will learn to move on your breath.  It is a practice that will improve your core strength, flexibility and focus.

Our Sumit's class combines Bikram Yoga along with Vinyasa and is a great combination of both styles.

Benefits of the Heat

  • Promotes sweating, which assists the detoxification process using the largest organ of elimination, the Skin.

  • Blood becomes thinner, which clears the circulatory system. Capillaries are dilated, allowing oxygen into muscles, tissues, glands and organs, also aiding in removal of waste products.

  • Muscles, fascia and connective tissue become elastic, lessening the chance of injury.

  • When the body is between three and five degrees above the normal temperature, activity of the thymus gland is multiplied 20 fold. T cells fight infection, which ensures the immune system is functioning properly.

  • Warmer temperatures produce a fluid-like stretch that allows for greater mobility of the joints.

  • Heart Rate becomes elevated which improves the cardiovascular system.

  • Improvement in your lymphatic system.

  • Stimulates both sides of the brain to improve memory, learning, coordination and balance.

  • Detoxifies every system in the body.

Other Class Types

  • Inferno Hot Pilates: Using Pilates principles, Inferno Hot Pilates is a challenging, full body, low impact, high intensity workout. It is performed on a yoga mat in a room heated to 95 degrees and 40% humidity. Hot Pilates strengthens muscles and burns fat — all without the pounding of a high impact workout. It is designed for all fitness levels.

  • Silent Yoga: New types of yoga classes are a dime a dozen.  Imagine feeling so blissed out that you float on a cloud the rest of your day.  That's the sensory experience awaiting you in this class as we practice our Bikram sequence in silence.

  • Sumit Vinyasa Flow: One of the most popular styles among yogis of all experience levels. You’ve probably heard the phrase “Vinyasa Flow” when referring to this type of yoga. Vinyasa Flow refers to the way this style keeps you moving from asana to asana, linking each pose to an inhale and an exhale. Instructors keep the flow of movements smooth and continuous, which can help you stay present during the session. If you find your mind wandering off in the down-time between poses or sequences, Vinyasa yoga is for you.

  • Express: Yoga Express is a one hour class to revitalize busy people with busy lives. This is our regular Bikram class performed in 60 minutes.

  • Restorative Yoga: The centering of your breath and body - aligning the physical and mental by practicing stillness or gentle movement for extended periods of time. The props assist in helping you to hold poses longer. We held certain poses and postures for minutes, but not in the way you would in a Bikram practice. No horse stance or warrior poses where your legs are absolutely burning like they are going to explode. More like holding a stretch by assisting that stretch with a strap around the foot. It felt therapeutic and it also was somewhat relaxing. That doesn’t mean it was easy though.

  • Advanced: This class is for regular practitioners looking to expand their practice.  This class consists of 84 poses and you will be surprised at how this class will improve your regular Bikram practice.
